Santa Fe South side NEW OBAMA office now open…call to Hispanics
50 days left to the campaign. Such short notice. However, let’s be upbeat. There is a rally call for focus on the Hispanic vote. I foundout because my friend Pat called me to come get her for this grand opening. Virginia, an active Hispanic political leader for many years had called all troops: they want seniors to show up. Well I am a borderline senior, resistant to adopt that name yet. However, Pat and I do have fun at such events, and so I re-organized the day and joined the rally call. We got there early and got great seats. Neither of us can stand for very long, so this was important. Many people, including the Governor had to stand during most of the event.
Gov. Richardson, was moving quickly through his speech, when he paused for breath, and I, in a rather loud voice, said, “What about the women???!!!” He was startled, and not happy, said, “I was just about to get to that,” the crowd had several Yes es what ABOUT the women, and the rest burst into laughter. Truth is he did not talk at all about women’s issues. Another speaker did as a rallying point for Hispanic women and their strengths, and included me as sisters. Pat was proud of my interruption, these were vignette speeches with no time for questions. Pat said it was on many of the women’s minds, and needed to be said.
Well if you want the free tickets to see Obama in Espanola tomorrow, get to the headquarters early, they open at nine, to get yours. I’ll be there. New Mexicans, last election there was only a 337 vote difference. Lots of people, including Hispanic Voters, did not vote. If this final rush push works, and the polls aren’t rigged, we could easily get another 4000 votes for Obama, and make sure there is no recount or doubt that Obama has won. Be brave and vote. Be proud and vote. Have a party afterward and vote.
I hope i get enough tickets tomorrow to bring several folks to ESPANOLA NM, the heart of New Mexico’s Northern Democratic party. If you have friends in NM who need some encouragement, forward, copy, print, this blog to let them know. Viva NEw Mexico USA. As one speaker, a famous politico in NM, said,”Don’t sit around and complain: vote for the CHANGE!”
