BLOGS:
Ideally you can optimize results by having several blogs. Each of these blogs can produce income and traffic to your site. I use only free blogs at this time, and I use 5 different kinds.
1) 451Press www.451press.com I contract with 451press to write my blog. They pay me. They also have another company to blog for too. This company does all the fancy tech work. They make me very visible. I have learned to be consistent. The money isn’t great, but helps. The self-promotion will be worth millions. More on this later. With your experience and schedule, this would be a low priority for you.
2) Wordpress blogs www.wordpress.com I even use other’s free templates. Lazy. A friend and author has developed her own wordpress blog and it took forever: she did learn how. www.nakedineden.com . She uses this as a platform to build her list and later launch her book. She also has developed a newsletter. Some sites will have ads and some sites have programs for revenue sharing from those ads. Remember the blog itself is an ad. Your goal is to direct people to your primary blog or wherever else.
3) Social networking sites. If you went to my facebook page, you would see lots of articles and blogs that me or someone else wrote. I could also blog there etc. If you went to my yuwie site there are several blogs posted in the blog section. Use the small print one/ ( www.r.yuwie.com/makinart/ )if you want to sign up. I get credit for referrals. Social Networking sites are fun because you can reach large audiences with a short blog. You can post your url to your page so every visitor can see it at any time. Also yuwie and www.bizzyblogz.biz are two of the most responsive social sites I’ve been on. On Yuwie you can also join clubs with thousands of members. Post there once a week and could be good. Post in forums, and public announcements too. In this weeks episode of In her Own Life….url. Presto another ad. I also love to go to a very active site with large numbers of people to leave a comment. These techniques can create traffic. Though you m ay make $$$ on these, it is hard. Consider the primary benefit is ads for you. http://www.yuwie.com/makinart/ or http://r.yuwie.com/makinart/ www.r.yuwie.com/makinart/
4) WWW.squidoo.com/makinart I have 26 pages. If you do squidoo, then sign up for their coaching (free) club. I didn’t at first. However I am learning and now I get more feedback and suggestions about how to improve. These are each like mini-websites. Squidoo has so many features. Each page has it’s own url. It stays there indefinitely. They have modules that you can add to create income. I could write a whole book on squidoo, but if you want I may have a few such ebooks already from people who have done well.
5) OTHER BLOGS. www.myithings.com/photoqueen This is an online magazine filled with writers, designers, and wannabes. THIS IS A MEGA-SITE for you. Don’t bother trying to win the $1000 contest (you could). These people are connected, backed by some bigger money and would have the perfect audience for your book. Look at the magazine go to the home page from my column. You can write a short article about writing, fashion, shoes, why teens love European shoes, your book, etc. Leave comments on people’s walls (they are more visible). 4-5 posts (articles) may get you on the top 50 writers list (must do each month) where your face/photo invites people to read you. A rather responsive crowd once you leave a few comments. The BIG IMPACT of this site is the magazine readers. Look at it and see how they promote themselves and who they promote. If you wrote the three judges each month some well know designers…do you think you could generate some biz? Be creative. Plus after 5 posts, you could sign up for ad revenue from ADSENSE. I messed mine up and have to fix that some day.
Other blogs that could be helpful: You can blog comments to CNN (just learned about that). You can use AOL, MSN, etc. when the urge moves you. Essentially keep them short, your url signature helps. Most of the tag communities, Digg etc have both forums and places to blog too. Use them. Mybloglog.com is good and gets good google stats. www.Myblogcatalog.com has worked very well for my friend Robin at www.nakedineden.com .
COSTS and TIME: This will be an intro for this topic. My friend Chuck has invested both time and money into his business. He’s a shrewd businessman who has time and some capital to invest. I know his start was slow, yet he continually made a profit from his expenditures. He has gone much further than I. You can create a paid ad campaign. Go to 451Press to check their ad rates. Each social network also have ad rates.
Before doing that consider how much time you have to invest, and have several places where you can earn $$$ online or convert your visitor into an opt-in where they give you their name and email or make a sale that will earn you a commission, or both. If over time you could earn $500.00 a month from affiliates, $500 from writing articles online, or $500 from something else you love doing. If you are going to do all the work to promote your book, including selling parts as an ebook, you might as well pick up cash along the way. (Imagine the novel as as 3-4 volumes. Ebook one chapters 1-7, cost $3.50 each? Volume 2 chapters 8-13. Volume 4: 14-? Then after doing these vol offers, when the whole book is ready….) I also read recently that you could sell your ebooks on CD’s on ebay. That’s another book.
Several streams of income is a no brainer.
Map out your plan. If in 90 days you want “X” results you’ll have to devote a lot of time and perhaps hire a techie to fastforward. Before you do that request shortcut programs from me to save the techie time.
When do you want to earn that “advance”? We can then discuss time needed and ways to achieve this. Start considering what would I have to do to earn $4200 a month from my writings online. 845 sales at $5 per months. Maybe 20 people at $100 each at a seminar online would
