MUSIC ALA CARTE: How does Santa Fe COmpare to ALBQ?
This weekend will be tough to compare. OzzFest 2007 in ALB on Thursday night and for how long? There are more clubs in ALB and there’s still the International Jazz Festival.
Have you been to Club Rhythm and Blues on 3523 Central Av? Or stopped by for a more contempoary scene at Burt Tiki’s Lounge at 313 Gold Av? Plus all the summerfest music and special events at how many Casino’s? The buzz is Albuquerque is hot this week with really great acts!
Just to give a heads up…also check out the pow wow scene, especially in Gallup and near Farmington. Do a little research, and there’s probably a powwow every weekend between now and October! Plenty of music, native style there.
Also on Sept 1 the Navajos will be having a 2nd annual Walk for Peace in Cortez CO. That’s right next to Farmington and Mesa Verde for the newcomers in the city.
So in Santa Fe, a much smaller city: there’ll be jazz at the Lensic, Chamber Music, tonight Thursday, all the local clubs with regular fair, and the Opera, AND SPANISH MARKET. Guess what? In addition to crafts and traditional artisans, there will be Hispanic music in all its seductive and lustrous forms. In the evening you’ll likely hear bands playing from balconies and clubs, street musicans scattered about, plaza shows, music at The NM Museums, plpayers at the galleries, the Ore House, and La Fonda. If the tourist big crowded time gets to you, then just go to Guadalupe for more music, food, and fun. Don’t forget Pranzo’s with jazz and theatre shows, or you can drive a little north to Lodge at Santa Fe, or south to Santa Fe Brewing company. For those who really want to go local, cruise Second St and Saint Michael’s.
I think this weekend Santa Fe is in high gear and will be cranking lots of TUNES! Wherever you are party (safely), afterall summer is short and the sizzle is HOT!
Spanish Market 7/27 and 7/28 Santa Fe Plaza.
Last note, please come to Santa Fe this weekend. However, if you are in ALB you might want to scan MSN’s city guide for ALB: an interesting article: 7 ways to travel cheap.
