LABOR DAY 2007 MONDAY: Try the variety enclosed.
hERE’S A SALUTE TO ALL WORKERS! Amazing how the BIG USA with fewer and fewer worker’s rights can’t close shop for just 1 day! What has the world come to? Millions of retail workers, grocery clerks, walmart emplyees, restaurant staff: WILL HAVE TO WORK TODAY. Sure a lot of Americans will want to shop etc. But wouldn’t it be incredible if all workers could have a day OFF?
Our rights as workers have continually DIMINISHED over the last 3 decades. INSURANCE BENEFITS, sick time, reasonable lunches: all either gone or lessened. Jobs outsourced. Little or no seniority. Shoe factory workers had more benefits than most retail workers today.
Look around too: a lot of jobs aren’t even going to Americans, here in the USA. In the meantime big companies get more profit, are richer while the rest, and the once upon a time middle class struggle harder and harder. Where’s the justice?
Even white collar jobs aren’t safe anymore. No sense in planning to work with one company for 20-25 years. Tomorrow they may outsource your job.
In the 60’s some people may have taken to the street to protest. Before that there were legal strikes and real negotiations. In the 60’s and 70’s we had thousands of manufacturing jobs. Decent pay, decent benefits. What do you have to look forward to? What will your children do?
So today we can be greatful that most of us are working at something. Save money and count your blessings. You may have to work until your seventies. Hopefully your body will still be strong enough to work. Plan for options: because anything can happen.
