Late night wanderings: new blogs to read but subscribe here 1st!
I wanted to get you more details on the international jazz ensemble concert Sunday October 28th but I couldn’t find it on www.nmjazz.org
However they have updated the site and there are a lot of good links. So the SUnday COncert is at the Albuquerque Jewish Community Center and will be 4:00 - 5:30. Brazilian,Jewish, Chilean, Venezulan muisc and more: sounds good to me! Definitely a change of pace.
There is snow on the Mountain! It may not last long, but we’ve had very cold weather for October already. We have had secveral frosts with temperatures down to the 20’s. I had to finally give in and start dragging out fall clothing. Normally we have an Indian summer in October b ut I missed it this year. A few more days in the higher seventies would be nice. The colors are fantastic: yellow and purpple dancing abundantly from flowers and bushes to majestic trees.
We took a long ride through the countryside down rolling hills and onto the wide open plains where more subtle shifts of taupe and browns, reds among the cut grains told stories of the earth’s recent harvest. Occassionall burst of emerald green would suddenly appear from the new winter crops. The roasting of green chile has subsided and is replaced with new red chile ristras prominent at stands and festivals. If you are lucky, even in Santa Fe, some farmers come to town with truckloads of fresh apples from nearby orchards.
If you are visiting now, make sure to drive north up the Rio Grande to see a most excellent parade of fall colors, little villages with their harvests, and grand old cottonwood in exquisite grandeur. Here the symphony of all that depicts the old wild west rambles on with crescendos of brillance, sustainability, and the strong vibrance of intercultural strength and individuality. Stop and explore the pueblos, talk to farmers, and enjoy local tiny cafes where wonderful stories are often still shared. If you take time, and go slowly, you can feel the deep wonder, of a people connected to their earth. A place where reverence and renewal lives strong. A rhythm of oneness as deep as the Rio Grande. The air and sudden storms like drums calling calling your heart to open to the brillant blue skies and all her secrets. This is New Mexico. This is our home. This is the power of wild horses running through desert and canyons. It is very real. It takes many journeys to explore.
The other day I saw an eagle, perched on a telephone wire, above a wild field. Moments before Pat had seen a coyote. Your eagle beats my coyote she teased in a childhood chant. I smiled and laughed, yet we need both for our stories to continue.
Have a great weekend!
