This week I found out I was “encouraged” to wear a costume to work on Wed Night HALLOWEEN. So dismayed and without a clue I went to the BACA STREET GOODWILL CLEARNACE store. GREAT PRICES! I spent $8 and got a lot more than my costume. My costume will be called night sky. 1 full length black 100% cotton dress with big slits up both sides. 1 wrap around cotton tree pattern skirt. 1 sparkling purpppple skirt that I’ll use as a cowl (hood for head and rest draped over the shoulders), 1 transparent white cutain that I’ll scarf around my neck…flowing moving clouds. NIGHT SKY. I could turn this image into a fine abstract painting when I get back to painting! I should be able to get some laughs and be comfortable. My bronze cane if I need it could make a great branch.

Other thrift stores in Santa Fe, the HOSPICE thrift store on BACA Street, right next to BOOKS and MORE BOOKS, where for a short time you can pick up books 3 for a dollar. They also have an extensive art book department including new and used books. (They are online too but I do not know the address.) Open Hands Resale on Second St and Mateo is an upscale place that does a lot of excellent community work. Highest prices in town, unless as I did the other day you hit a great sale: two tops for $2.50 each. The Community thrift store….off Cerrillos and across from Jackolope’s on Clark St. This store tried to go to very high prices and dropped to more reasonable prices with great sales. Lots of items under $10. Also classy real arts and pottery gifts too. The main Goodwill on Cerrillos. That’s a good start for Santa Fe.

Lastly for tonight, a short review on CELEBRATIONS Restaurant.
In the last week I’ve been to Celebrations twice. Celebrations, along time Canyon Rd fav restaurant recently moved to ST Michael’s Dr. Two completely different neighborhoods. It’s onw of Pat’s favorite restaurants. We went on Sunday around 12:30. The place was closed. We had to wait about 15 minutes. However when we were finally seated, we got a great small three corned booth which created some privacy. Pat loves the decor. I was glad not to get the tiny table for two, as we are NOT tiny. A friend showed up right after us and soon had a group of six from church. He was informed in the future to call before and make a reservation to reduce waiting time. They seemed to have great time and were still there when we left. Our service was marginal; however we left a decent tip. Food was OK for me but fussy Pat was estastic. We usually have a good time but you can never predict who will be the more satisfied one! SO Pat would give the experience an 8, and I a 5.

Friday morning I wanted to go breakfast: a rare event. I thought first the Tecolote or Pantry. These places are both down home NM and famous both to locals and tourists. Both also have New Mexican food and AMerican normal fare. Both were packed. I also wanted to go to Horse Haven Cafe, but it was at the other end of town, so my fav’s too busy, and after errands, about 10:30 - 11:00 I end up at Celebrations. Service was worse, although I did not have towait as long. Two large groups of affluent seniors were there, and later I found out it was their busiest breakfast ever at the new location. My waitress dropped down to a 3, although she was friendlier. Understaffed sort of they suddenly had two groups of seniors on the go waiting a very long time to sort out their slips. I never got by bill but when they were done, I walkwd up to her to pay. She complained about how awful it was that they wanted separate slips.

I decided to politely tell the hostess/cook that the waitress could use a lesson in customer service. The lady turned defensive and was an amazon protecting her warrior. I persisted and said that they had better get used to being busier and having large groups of seniors wanting separate slips. That’s one of the best customer groups they could want for regular customers. She remained deaf to my concerns. Will I return? Less than likely unless I want to be kind to Pat. Seems like they’d want loyal, regular customers to fill their place! Too many years down on Canyon Rd where they could be snooty and get away with it.

Santa Fe Baking Company, on Cordova rd. A+ (when the owners aer there), they can handle tons of people, be busy ALL day long, have good food at fair prices, and lots more. Later I’ll do a review.
